Hallazgo del cuerpo

The police confirmed Thursday that the body of Sharon, a 5‑year‑old Aboriginal girl, was recovered 5 km from her home in the Old Timers camp, Alice Springs, Northern Territory. She disappeared Saturday night around 23:30 (14:00 GMT) and her family reported her missing at 01:35 Sunday (16:05 GMT). The discovery was described by officials as "incredibly distressing". The family has been notified.

The family, members of the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, expressed profound grief, describing Sharon as a bright child who loved school. "We are devastated, but we trust the police will bring the perpetrator to justice," said the mother, who declined to give her name.

An extensive search was launched immediately after the report. Decenas de agentes, two helicopters, thermal‑sensor drones, canine units and ground patrols combed an area of up to 20 km² despite harsh weather. More than 200 community members joined the effort, providing local knowledge of the terrain. The operation lasted several days, narrowing the search zone until the body was located.

Police focus now on a 47‑year‑old man seen with the girl on the night of the disappearance. Records show he was released from prison only days before the incident. Witnesses placed him near the Old Timers camp shortly before 23:30. He remains at large, and authorities have issued a public appeal for information.
